Michael Lutaaya is a Ugandan professional artist who specializes in painting with the palette knife. Drawing inspiration from his life experiences, environment and culture, his work falls in the contemporary impressionist movement. He uses the impasto technique (the application of paint in visibly thick textures) to express his emotions and ideas on canvas in signature vibrant colours.
Having communicated a multiplicity of messages since launching out as a professional in 2017, the palette knife specialist recently focused his tools on capturing/delivering messages about his Christian faith, which he says is the centre, lifeblood and rock of his life.
In 2017 Lutaaya established Bafrika Creationz, an Entebbe town-based community studio that provides a workspace and platform for various artists to further their practices. The studio especially gives young upcoming artists a helping hand.
Lutaaya was born and bred in Entebbe town. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Art and Design from Kyambogo University, as well as a diploma in the same field from Michaelangelo School of Creative Arts, Kisubi. His work has been featured in several exhibitions around Uganda, let alone sold across the world.
